For seamless map-battle scene transitions you would either need to event your battles as part of the exploration or use some kind of script (a.k.a. I have focused on map display here, since I believe all the makers offer an enemy-facing, a.k.a. There's a "3D" projection-style plugin for MV (see linked discussion), I'm not sure if there is something like it planned, or already available, for other makers. 2000/2003 don't offer scripting, and I don't know much about script options for XP/VX/VX Ace. But if you just want to know if it can be done, yes, Mystery Dungeon is indeed possible - VX Ace, in particular, can do it well. As your first game, I highly highly recommend doing something else first to learn the engine. make a few games using standard systems first. If you want 3D-looking transitions as you move around, then scripts/plugins would probably be the easiest way to go about it. however, dont do this if youre unfamiliar with the software. (Note that plugins for MV are generally not compatible as-is with MZ, and vice-versa.)īasically, if you're OK constructing the viewpoint with eventing & pictures then any RPG Maker will be OK. There was a discussion about first-person stuff on the RPG Maker MV boards: link. there's also a limited version of VX Ace available on Steam, called VX Ace Lite. A horror game inspired by J-Horror games and films. In case you're interested, you can find limited trial versions over here: A man returns to the family ranch to find it overrun by aliens and monsters. I think the biggest change so far may have been the introduction of traits (VX Ace?). The makers (2000, 2003, XP, VX, VX Ace, MV, MZ) are all pretty similar in terms of ease-of-use. With RPG Maker MV, you can make your very own game without any programming knowledge whatsoever.
